The Labour party is nursing a viper.

New antiterrorism measures proposed by Britain’s Labour government in late January – including curfews, electronic tagging, and house arrest for terror suspects – were a step in the right direction for a nation increasingly beset by radical Islamists.

The fact that British authorities have arrested dozens of suspected Islamic terrorists and terror sympathizers over the past year and thwarted several terrorist plots (including one which involved crashing airplanes into Heathrow Airport and London’s financial district) merely underscores Britain’s dubious position as al Qaeda’s leading European target.

North Korea: A Time for Action

North Korea human rights abuse has reached a new peak last month in the midst of another nuclear crisis that was initiated by Pyongyang. Amid North Korea’s announcement that it possesses nuclear weapons and is suspending its participation in “six-nation” nuclear talks, Kim Jong Il’s Stalinist regime also found time to execute 70 refugees who were recently captured en-route to China.

The Commission to Help North Korean Refugees, a highly reputable NGO, said that eight or nine of the 70 who were executed were put to death publicly in order to discourage others from attempting to slip across the border into China. Continue reading

Despite some positive steps taken by Libya in the past few years to normalize relations with Europe and the United States, the government of Col. Muammar Qaddafi has proven that it neither respects the fundamental rights of its citizens nor can be trusted to observe the norms of international law. The regime’s ruthless campaign to silence dissenting views, a campaign that until recently extended no further than Libyan borders, now targets the global telecommunications system and cannot be tolerated.

Taking Back Islam

There’s an elephant in the room whenever the current U.S. operation in Iraq is discussed: Is Islam truly compatible with democracy? Or do the U.S.’s troubles in stabilizing Iraq signal that Muslims simply have no desire to live in a free, democratic society?

Right now the answers to these questions are unclear. For every modern Islamic “success story” like Turkey or Malaysia, there are Islamist nightmares like Saudi Arabia and Iran.
